Governor Walker’s Secret Attack on Birth Control

Yesterday we received the stunning news that Governor Walker has decided that the Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) will no longer enforce our state contraceptive mandate, which ensures that employers provide contraceptive coverage to their employees. The Walker administration is using the Supreme Court’s recent Hobby Lobby ruling to justify their choice. But don’t be fooled: our contraceptive mandate was not impacted by Burwell v. Hobby Lobby and there is no reason to stop enforcing the state law. Governor Walker’s conduct, while not surprising, is outrageous. Either he has… Read more Governor Walker’s Secret Attack on Birth Control

We’re proud that this ballot measure is being proposed here in Dane County and throughout the state. However, the question remains. Is $10.10 an hour enough of a raise to lift minimum wage workers out of poverty, to allow those… Read more Wisconsin NOW Endorses 15 Now and a $15.00/hr Minimum Wage

From One 25 Year Old to Another

This is an open letter to Scott Walker’s campaign press secretary, Alleigh Marre, who is currently taking heat for having previously expressed support for Planned Parenthood in a blog. Dear Alleigh, I’m really sorry to hear that your job might be in jeopardy because you support (or, at least, at one time supported) Planned Parenthood. While I’m not interested in working for Scott Walker myself (or any Republican for that matter), I can admit that your position sounds impressive. I can imagine that as a young woman who is a… Read more From One 25 Year Old to Another

Street Harassment Awareness Week: The Kick-Off

Today at noon, members of the Madison chapter of the National Organization for Women kicked off our local Street Harassment Awareness Week with a literature drop in Madison. We shared information about street harassment with pedestrians on State street, Capitol Square, and on Campus. We also gave women and men cards that they can use to respond to street harassment. Front: Your Behavior is Harassment: It is unwelcome, unpleasant, disrespectful, and rude. STOP IT!Back: Street harassment is any action or comment between strangers in public places that is disrespectful, unwelcome,… Read more Street Harassment Awareness Week: The Kick-Off
